Computex 2019: ARM Announces New Cortex-A77 CPU, Mali-G77 GPU Based on ‘Valhall’ Architecture


At Computex in 2019, ARM announced a new generation of GPUs and GPUs. The Cortex-A77 is a recurring update of the Cortex-A76 processor that promises performance up to 20 percent higher than the previous year’s model. The Mali G77 graphics chip or graphics chip is a great update because it is the first to be based on the new Valhall ARM architecture and promises around 1.4x productivity improvements over Mali G76. Finally, we also have a new MLM that offers performance up to 4TOP / s and is designed to speed up demanding tasks such as 3D Face Locking or Extended Depth Control when shooting in portrait mode.

The Cortex-A77 processor is based on the same template as the Cortex-A76 processor, but ARM has increased single flow performance by 20%. This is a bar based on the 7nm manufacturing process and has a maximum 3GHz clock speed. Compared to previous generation processors, this new processor offers 35% better floating point performance and an increase in memory bandwidth of 15% higher. It also said that the processor would provide an enhanced ML and Real Life Experience (AR) and would support the expected culture of the new 5G device in the coming months. The processor has an increase in micro architecture that allows better performance.

The next step is the new GPU Mali G77 based on the new Valhall architecture. Some new architectural enhancements include a new supercharged engine, a simplified ISA scalar with a set of compiler statements, and a redesign of data structures for better API performance such as Volcano. The two main features include an improved performance engine that provides 33 percent higher processing power, while the new quadruple texture structure provides almost twice the power for more effective texture-heavy game conversions.

Finally, we arrived at the latest ARM processor – ARM ML, which was developed specifically for ML tasks. This is based on a new architecture for smart phones, smart cameras, AR / VR devices, drones and even medical electronics and other consumers. It is believed that this architecture provides performance up to 4 TOP / s without consuming a lot of battery.
